Bonnie is excited to be a new member of the US*99.5 family, joining us from four years on the WJMK-FM morning show!
You'll find Bonnie reporting news and traffic every morning with Lisa Dent & Ramblin' Ray (while keeping them in line, and searching for Joe Theismann)!
We asked her to share a little bit about herself:
I was born right here in Chicago, in the Galewood neighborhood on the northwest side.
I attended Olivet Nazarene University for college. I started doing college radio and began to develop her love of sports. I did a sports talk show, color commentary for both football and basketball (hey, it's a small school) and got bit by the radio bug!
I attended Northwestern for graduate work in radio/TV and then moved back to Birmingham where my career began. I was the in-house female voice talent at a recording studio and was "discovered" for a nightly entertainment show based on my ability to ad-lib (not kidding). I began to do voice-over work, morning radio and later did a weekly TV music video show (as a V.J.) countin' down the hits.
Then it was back to Chicago ... where I missed hearing other people talk like me ... and my father lives here. I started doing Big Ten basketball and football specials for the old SportsChannel. And I began working in Chicago radio in a most unlikely way - doing Friday night sports for Eddie Schwartz on WGN (I met Ed back when I was in college). I did that for three years and then moved on to doing sports in morning drive for WIIL in Kenosha. I continued there for another three years until I was "discovered" by Barry Butler at Shadow Broadcasting where I was hired full-time to do radio! Gee, it took long enough. I've worked for Shadow for six years on just about every station they service here in the Chicagoland area.
I am divorced without any children - except for Mookie, my Bichon Frise. Listeners who may have heard me mornings on WYSY-FM with Brian Casey know all about Mookie - his antics were legendary!
I love sports probably more than anything ... football, basketball, boxing, golf (although I don't play), baseball and hockey. I credit my father for much of it (although my mother blames my father for the boxing thing). When there's nothing else on, there's always ESPN Classic.
AND, I love fast cars... if it ain't a V-8, don't bother me with it. I think it's a sports-related thing ...
