There’s No Place Like Home – Parts 2 & 3

Awesome 2 hour episode (and season finale!).

Flash Forwards:

* Despite the evidence from last season that the obit clipping was taken from an April 2007 paper, we discover that it was just a production error and that pill-popping Jack happens sometime AFTER Kate and he split up over the whole Sawyer favor thing.

* We learn the identity of the casket – Jeremy Bentham… of course, at the end of the episode, we see that it’s John Locke.  This confuses me… I don’t understand why the O6-ers would call him by a different name.   Unless he has a double or something, because the dead Locke didn’t look much like Locke in that it looked like his scar was gone.  But I suppose that dead people make-up could cover that up.

* Walt visits Hurley.  That was pretty cool.  We get confirmation that the O6 lying is to protect those that were left behind.

* We learn that Jeremy/Locke has visited both Walt and Hurley.

* If Sayid ever asks you for the time, duck and cover.

* Sayid convinces Hurley to leave with him to go someplace safe.  What does that mean?

* Is Mr. Eko really there playing chess with Hurley?

* Now we get to Sun, who definitely seems divided from the rest of the O6 – since she’s apparently willing to team up with Widmore even though we have so far been led to believe that he’s the ultimate bad guy.  I think she is just hoping to find Jin still alive on the island – somehow?   And she’s using Widmore to help…. Maybe she knows that Ben can’t get back there, so she isn’t looking for help from him.   We don’t know if Jeremy/Locke talked to her.

* “We’re not the only ones who left the island.” – hmmm… I think she’s referring to the fact that Ben got off the island too.  I think she’s going to help him get Ben, maybe in exchange for helping her get back?  Or she just blames Ben for his role in Jin’s death – he could be the #2 that she referenced last week?

* Kate’s phone call dream was seriously the creepiest thing I’ve ever seen on Lost.  Claire was freaky.  And I think it’s very interesting that Claire’s apparition doesn’t want Aaron back, but Jeremy/Locke does want them all back.  I got the impression that Claire & Christian are island spokespeople with Jacob and that they are guiding Locke – so wouldn’t they all want the same thing??  Or be working toward the same goal?

* Ben and Jack together – they all have to go back.  Ben has some ideas to make this happen.  Can’t wait for next season!!!

Island – Jungle & Orchid:

* The Others’ ambush on Keamy’s team was awesome!  I love that Kate and Sayid were all part of it.  Sayid and Keamy’s fight was the best fight I’ve ever seen on TV.  Sayid is so awesome.

* Kate and Sayid get to leave – with Ben’s blessing.  So, in looking back at what happens later in the episode, it’s a pooper that these 2 actually have to be a part of those that return.  You’d think they would have gotten a pass since they were given the go ahead. Oh well.

* Locke wants Jack to stay.  Locke knows that it’s important. “It’s a place where miracles happen.”

* The Orchid Station (Station #6) is pretty cool.  The orientation video confirmed that time travel is a possibility on the island – even though we mostly knew that.  I loved Locke’s face after Marvin Candle says to keep all metal objects away from the room just as he sees Ben loading it up with every single metal object available in the station.

* Kenny Rogers – hehehehe

* Obviously, Keamy would be wearing body armor – but I was still surprised when he was entering the Orchid.  Ben snaps, stabbing him like crazy.  Ben covered in blood and saying that he didn’t care about the people on the freighter was probably the second most creepy thing I’ve ever seen on Lost.

* So, somehow, loading up that room with all the metal allowed Ben to crawl through a cave to the blue light, where it was really cold.  He pushes the wheel, the sky hums and turns white and the island up and disappears. Whoa.

* But before that – we learn some interesting stuff:  a) Whoever moves the island can never come back – so Ben is gone from the island forever, b) John is definitely the new leader and that the Others will follow everything he says.

* I think that after Ben finished moving the island, he was ejected into the desert that we saw during “The Shape of Things to Come.”  Same parka and I’m pretty sure that he had an arm injury there too.

Island – Beach:

* Miles totally calls Charlotte out.  Interesting that she’s been on the island before. I’m glad that both Miles and Charlotte are going to stick around on the island.

* Charlotte says she’s looking for where she was born.  But I wonder if she means born in the literal sense, or more like born with some kind of ability or something that she learned on the island as a child or something.  I lean towards the latter because we know about the difficulty in conceiving on the island, although I suppose that it could have happened like Alex and Aaron.

* Sawyer swims up – good thing he made it in time, what if he would have still been swimming when the island moved?  And what happened to Dan and the people he was shuttling???

* Poor Juliet – I so want to know what is in store for her. She’s been such a background character for the last few episodes and it bummed me out.  Nursing her Dharma rum was especially depressing.

Freighter:

* When Sun tells Michael she’s pregnant, it’s pretty obvious that he’s still into her.  He has that split second of sadness and then the forced congratulations.

* Christian showing up to say that Michael can go now – Michael must have fulfilled his duty to the island, served his purpose.

* Jin’s dead.  Unless he managed to jump off the boat before it blew and sunk… but even then, he would have been just drifting until he drowned since the island would have disappeared before he could have swam his way back.  The only possibility is that Dan’s raft found him... but then what?

Helicopter/Searcher:

* I think we all knew that Sawyer was going to sacrifice himself for Kate.  Still, it was very touching.

* I was soooo thankful that Desmond survived the helicopter crash – I was certain he wasn’t going to make it.  I was even happy to see LaPidas survive.
Desmond and Penny are finally together!!!!

* And Penny helps the O6ers come up with the plan to protect the island.   How will Penny and Desmond stay hidden from Widmore???

There’s No Place Like Home

Nice little Wizard of Oz reference.  I liked the format from last week – so I’m going to stick with it again.  Lots of little answers last night.  This reads more like a summary than anything really insightful.  But I do think that this episode sets us up nicely for the 2-hr finale in 2 weeks!

Flash Forwards:

* The co-pilot rubs his rabbit’s foot – knows that the cargo is bad mojo.  Does it go beyond just knowing that these guys have been in a prior plane crash?

* At the press conference – the Oceanic PR rep says that a raft washed ashore on Day 103.  We’re on Day 100 on the island right now, so there are 3 days to go.  But 8 more days until they leave on the raft.  I guess we’ll see how that actually plays out.

* Now we know why the date on Jin’s tombstone is the date of the crash – that’s the story.

* We know that Kate is claiming to be Aaron’s bio-mom.

* We know how Sayid and Nadia are reunited.  That was sweet.

* The reporters seem suspicious, don’t they?  Or maybe they’re just doing their jobs.

* I was very impressed with Sun!  I love that she bought the controlling interest in Paik Industries.  This may be very, very interesting down the line since I’m pretty sure that Paik is somehow involved in the island.  She tells her father that he is 1 of 2 people responsible for Jin’s death.  I wonder who the other one is???  Widmore? Ben?  Would she reveal something like this to her father when the existence of these guys isn’t part of the O6 story?

* Hurley is quickly coming apart at the seams.  The coconut and the whispers were freaking me out too – so I guess I can’t blame him.  It was nice to see that all the O6-ers showed up (except for Sun – probably too pregnant to fly).  Clearly, they stay pretty tight for a little while at least.

* The numbers on the odometer and trip odometer – even if we don’t know what they mean – was pretty cool.

* Jack gives a belated eulogy for Christian – again, most of the O6-ers are there.  Claire’s mom shows up.  There are two options here – 1) she woke up from the coma that she’s been in for ?? years and was still in on when Claire got on that plane – and even Christian told Claire that she should pull the plug or 2) she died in that coma and her showing up to see Jack was actually a ghost.

* We know how Jack discovers that Claire is his sister – and this has to be what separates him from Kate.

Island – Beach:

* Daniel fixes the sat phone to listen to the other phone and overhears them say the Orchid.  He knows about the secondary protocol?  HOW!?  I feel pretty confident that he is not wanting to destroy the island or kill anyone – so how does he know?  My guess – he remembers this from mind skipping at some point – which is how he has the Orchid logo in his notebook.  And he knows that whatever is going to happen there is BAD.

* Sayid arrives on the island with the raft and fills them in on the real purpose of the helicopter people.  He takes off to bring back Jack and Sawyer.  Kate hands off Aaron.

* Jin & Sun get on the first raft trip out to the freighter.

Freighter:

* Michael fixes the engine, but something is broadcasting and blocking the signal off the freighter.  Oh look, the comm room is stacked with C4.  What a pickle.

Island – Jungle & Orchid:

* Ben shatters all candy-bar camaraderie that formed between him and Hurley when he comments in disgust that the crackers Hurley is eating are 15 years old.

* Ben and the Mirror – who is he signaling to?  What did he signal?

* Keamy and group beat them to the Orchid entrance.  What is there?  What can this station do?

* I love how offended Ben looks when Locke questions him.  And then he surrenders, but not before handing Locke his super bad-*ss baton.

* Richard and the rest of the others take Kate and Sayid!!!!

* Jack and Sawyer are committed to saving Hurley from Keamy’s group.

The episode ends with us having absolutely NO IDEA how the O6 are going to get back together in order to get off the island together.  They are all separated!

Cabin Fever

I think I’m going to go about this a different way.  Normally, I go through the show in scene by scene order... but I think that I have to tackle the flashbacks separately.  For me, the show was a bit disjointed since sooo many of the cast members played a role that I feel like going about it that way.  This took me almost all of the morning and usually I proofread it – but I don’t have time.  Sorry if it is especially wordy or confusing – this one is a major mind dump!

Flashbacks:

* Initially, when we were introduced to Emily – I thought we were getting a Ben flashback.  Because his mom was named Emily.  But then it was John’s.  So, I thought maybe I remembered wrongly about Ben’s Mom’s name.  But, I checked it this morning and it is Emily too.  I can’t imagine that this is a coincidence.  There are 1000s of names to choose from, why would you have two back story characters share a name?  I don’t really think that they are the same woman because Ben’s Mom died in childbirth and we saw Swoozie Kurtz as an older woman playing John’s mom – but still… I think it’s odd.  And the possibility that Ben and Locke are ∏ brothers is a tempting theory with lots of implications.

* John Locke’s birth and youth – fascinating!  Preemie – youngest to ever survive at that hospital.  Is that what causes Richard Alpert to show up?  (contact #1)  The fact that this little guy survived?  Or did Jacob or some other force tell him that this little guy was born and that they needed to recruit him?

* I wonder why Richard wasn’t able to adopt him right away – or have another “other” or “hostile” do it.  Why even let him get into the foster care system?   Maybe it was just a recon kind of thing?

* When John was at the foster home – he was already a fan of backgammon.

* He was also quite the artist sketching out Smokey.

* Which of things belonged to you:  a baseball glove, “Book of Laws”, vial of sand/pebbles, compass, “Mystery Tales: Hidden Lands” comic book, a knife?   This was messed up.  What was the right answer?  Clearly it wasn’t the knife.  But I think Richard perked up when he thought he was going to pick the comic book.  WHY?  (contact #2)

* Next we see Locke in high school – desperately wanting to be a jock, but stuck in the nerdy science world.  And Mittelos attempts to recruit him (contact #3).   We learn here that Locke is fighting his destiny.  And we get to see him say, “Don’t tell me what I can’t do,” again.

* I have a new Richard theory – it’s not that he doesn’t age – it’s that he’s always time jumping, so the times we’ve seen him, while it has been over a 50 yr span, maybe it’s just been like an average week for him?

* Locke likes Geronimo Jackson – throw back to the hatch days in season 2.

* Now, Locke is in physical therapy – only Richard isn’t the recruiter this time.  It is Matthew Abbadon – who is a Whidmore employee/follower.   Locke is a swing player in the Lost game.  Ben’s camp got to him first, or at least tried – but maybe they gave up on him?  Thus, providing the opportunity for Whidmore’s people to take a stab at him.  I think they are trying to show us that there is a choice involved.  That it is not 100% fate or destiny.

* The conversation with Abbadon definitely leads me to believe that the people on the plane were hand-picked by someone.  Abbadon put the walkabout in Locke’s mind, he tried to do it, can’t, and has to leave Australia early – putting himself on that plane.

* “I’m a lot more than an orderly.  You’ll owe me one.”  - creepy!  I can’t wait to see him call in that favor!

Freighter:

* The island is clearly still protecting Michael.  I think Keemy broke his leg.

* The secondary protocol had the Dharma logo on it – further confirmation of Whidmore’s involvement in the organization

* It was fun to see the freighter get the SOS call about the doctor.  Time differentials are fun.

* Sayid is going to try to ferry the survivors back and forth… this is going to be interesting.  I don’t really think he’ll end up making any headway on that.  I think he’ll likely get on the helicopter with the rest of the O6.  Or, maybe the O6 were all he could manage on the raft.  ?  But it will take more than one trip to get them all AND Hurley back to the freighter.

* Sayid is definitely aware of Penny’s name and he will know she is Desmond’s honey if/when Ben gives him the order to kill her… it will be interesting to see how he handles that knowledge.  But if it does come to that – I think he’d try to kill her regardless.

* Frank is a cool dude.  He was so excited to hear that Michael was an O815 survivor.  It was like he finally got confirmation of his conspiracy theory.

* Keemy is a messed up guy.  Suicide bomber.  Killing Doc.  Killing Captain.  Heck, by the time the O6 get on the freighter – they’ll be the only ones on it!

Locke / Ben / Hurley:

* Locke’s eye shot moving on to his conversation with Horace Goodspeed.  The looping dream was creepy and cool.

* Ben’s wistful, “I used to have dreams” – he is just coming apart and he has definitely lost his connection to the island.

* Hurley, “What happened to them?”  Locke, “He did.”  Hilarious!

* Horace has the blueprints to Jacob’s cabin – but how does that tell Locke where to find it?

* Ben compliments Locke’s manipulation of Hurley – but then Locke seems to indicate that he wasn’t manipulating him with the “I’m not you” line.  Maybe that’s what makes Locke a better protector of the island than Ben??  And why Ben lost his way?

* “Destiny is a fickle b*&ch” – I love this line!

* Ben finally concedes that his time is over – he really does seem totally defeated.  But he somehow becomes his normal confident self in the flash forwards – so I wonder if this is all just another manipulation.

* Christian is hanging out in Jacob’s cabin.  There was some talk that Christian was the cabin’s inhabitant when we first saw the it in “The Man Behind the Curtain” – but I don’t think that’s the case though.  I think that Christian is just one of the many forms that the island or Jacob can take.

* Claire is a ghost – takes on more weight since she’s just hanging out with Christian.

* Christian says that Aaron is where he is supposed to be – this seems to be the opposite sentiment of last week and of “Raised by Another.”  It will be interesting to see what forces are pulling Aaron in his various directions…

* Locke has to “move the island” - WHAT!?!?!?!

Beach

* So, Frank was trying to send the guys on the beach a message.  But I don’t think that Jack interpreted it properly.  I think that following them would put them in direct danger of Keemy and I don’t think that’s what Frank wants.  Of all the people that have ever been on this show – I find it the most easy to accept that Frank is genuinely a nice person with the right motivations.  He’s not doing this for Whidmore, Dharma, the Others, the Hostiles – he’s doing this because he thinks that there are survivors to Flight 815 and he’s going to do his damndest to bring them home.

* But he set the sat phone to the tracker setting or whatever, so maybe jack did interpret it correctly and there is a good reason to bring everyone to where Keemy is?  But aside from trying to appeal to Keemy’s emotional side by saying something like, “Look at all these innocent people that you’re about to blow up.” I don’t see what good it will do for them to be there????  Oh wait, just thought of something, maybe he’s hoping that he can save a few before Keemy has the chance to use the bomb.  That actually makes a lot of sense.  It’s so funny when I have a new idea as I’m typing.   It would certainly explain why only 6 get away and why he wouldn’t be able to go back and forth to pick up everyone else because everyone else will die in the suicide bomb.

Something Nice Back Home

* And we start with an eye.  This episode is going to be awesome.  Episodes starting with an eye are always great!

* Flash forward is taking place in August 2007 based on “Yankees Bludgeon Red Sox in Series Sweep.”

* I love the Millennium Falcon toy…

* Raise your hand if you were biting your lip, hoping that it was Kate in the shower and then burst into a huge grin when it was her!!!

* Jack was reading “Alice in Wonderland” to Aaron – nice tie back to all the White Rabbit and other Alice allusions throughout the series.

* Anyone still holding out hope that Danielle survived can let go now… but more importantly, I am becoming less and less irritated by Miles, and more and more intrigued by him.  I hope to see more of him.   Especially because in the way he is watching Claire, I think he knows that something bad is about to happen to her.

* Rose saying that people don’t get sick here is a nice reminder to all of us to question why exactly Jack got sick.  Bernard mockingly suggests that he pissed off the island gods – but I think that his illness was the island’s way of making sure that he gets off the island – and Sun. If Jack wouldn’t have gotten sick, Sun and Jin wouldn’t have taken Charlotte and Daniel to the bunker, Jin wouldn’t have realized that Charlotte could understand Korean and he wouldn’t have been able to threaten her to get Sun off the island.  It’s a stretch – but I think it’s something to consider.

* Back to that – I love when we see Jin the bad-*ss.

* Hurley.  Wow – he is messed up.  I really hope that he’s not right and that they’re all dead.  Of course, I don’t think that he is… but I don’t appreciate the sliver of doubt that’s he’s planting in my head.  Message from Charlie – “You’re not supposed to raise him, Jack.” And also that someone is coming to visit him.  “Raised by Another” – I think we may need to revisit this episode from Season 1.  Also, I think it’s beyond obvious that Christian will be paying Jack a visit.   And what is so darn special about Aaron???   To be told back then in S1 and then now that it matters who raises him – it’s got to mean something important.  I’m very thankful that she didn’t name him Damian… because that’s how much this little guy is starting to creep me out.

* Keemy is still alive???  I thought for sure that Smokey got all those guys!  The whole scene made me trust Pilot LaPidas a bit.

* When Jack was camped out at Hurley’s hospital – I believe he was waiting for Charlie.

* Jack is crumbling apart… he clearly hasn’t had his “redemption” moment.  Drinking, sleeping pills, anxiety, paranoia, freaking over the beeping smoke detector (so similar to the hatch), seeing Christian at the office.  Ah, he is so wonderfully flawed.  But I can’t blame him for being paranoid after overhearing the tail end of Kate’s phone call – it was clear she was lying to him.

* My theory for what she was doing for Sawyer is that she was getting together with Cassidy and visiting with Clementine.  Kate already knows Cassidy from “Left Behind” – so, once she found her (based on Sawyer giving her the information), it was probably easy for her to become friends with her – regardless of whether or not Kate explained the Sawyer connection. And I can see that Sawyer wouldn’t want Jack to know about his love-child because he does so much to hide his sensitive side from Jack – and I totally understand Kate being loyal to Sawyer over something like that. Regardless of her love for Jack.

* The Kate / Juliet / Jack scene, where Jack is pretending to be asleep and Juliet basically tells Kate that Jack loves Kate, was bizarre.

* So then Christian shows up on the island with Aaron.  WHOA!  Miles sees him, but that does nothing to prove to me that he is actually standing there since I think that Miles sees beyond reality.   But what is “Christian” up to?  Is Claire gone forever?  Was it all part of the island’s intentions of giving Aaron to Kate?   Then again, I think the psychic made it pretty clear that the child needs Claire’s influence in his life… so “Christian’s” interference here cannot be a good thing.

* And then it all goes in the pooper when Jack says, “You’re not even related to him.”  Was it just me, or would the words to follow that line be, “but I am!”  That’s how it seemed based on the emphasis put on the “you’re”… which makes me wonder when/how Jack ultimately finds out that Claire is his half-sister.  Maybe Miles helps him with that since Miles could see the “Christian” when he led Claire away and Miles heard her call him “Dad”?  Still, I think Jack needs more that a ghostbuster’s description to make him believe that Christian is Claire’s father too.

The Shape of Things to Come

Lots of groundwork being laid in this episode (duh – look at the title):

* I immediately recognized the doctor from the boat.  I can’t wait to find out who slit his throat.  I’m going with Sayid.  Or Michael.

* When they were forcing Alex to turn off the fences – I was like, “Oh no, smokey is going to get into the barracks!”

* Ben wakes up in the Sahara.  Is he transporting himself somehow?  I think that’s a theory for how the polar bear ended up in the desert in Charlotte’s story.  You don’t just wake up in the desert wearing a parka.  And then to have to confirm the date and year…  And to boot, Ben is a bad*ss with that little black baton thing.

* The name on his jacket is Halliwax or Hallowax.  It doesn’t ring any bells for me.

* Ben’s alias in Tunisia:  Dean Moriarty is one of the protagonists in Jack Kerouac's novel On the Road. Dean grew up in Colorado with a hobo / bum for a father, for whom he searches on many occasions. Dean's fanatic personality races from journey to journey and pulls other people along. His various fixations include drugs, women, intellectualism and finally, his father and family life. His marriage and divorce with Camille and Mary Lou, and his last affair with Inez, are a few examples of his romantic entanglements.

* Sayid is clearly being stalked by the paparazzi infatuated with the O6.  I’m happy that he reunited with Nadia – but ultimately very sad that she died, especially since her death was likely the result of her relationship with Sayid.  But I don’t understand the motivation of why Widmore would want to take her out.  Unless he just wants Sayid to be part of the “game”?  Or did Ben actually kill her, put the blame on Widmore in order to recruit Sayid?  Regardless, we now know what caused Sayid to start working for Ben.

* Ben’s bluff got called – big time.  He’s clearly not used to that.  Tragic that Alex was just shot like that.  Death count is rising rapidly.  A couple of random survivors, Carl, Danielle… Regardless, it was nice to see some real emotion from Ben.

* Ben says, “He’s changed the rules.”  Makes it definitely seem like a game now.  Anyways, he goes into that secret room.  And when he comes back – he was dirty, right?  I think that secret room is a major key to what is going on.

* Now – Ben comes out (all dirty) and then gives everyone a warning, meaning he knows what is about to happen and then BAM – smokey comes in and takes out all bad dudes.  So, does Ben control smokey?  Or does he know how to trigger it?  Or what to do to provoke it?  Did he actually go somewhere when he went into that room… in order to get it there?  Last season, Juliet said that they didn’t know what smokey was – and I believed her because she seemed genuinely freaked out when it seemed to take pictures of her.  Was she lying, or does just Ben know?  Or does he not really know, but he knows enough to get it to come?  AHHHH – my head is going to explode!

* Okay – so the doctor (who is dead) is still alive on the boat.  Awesome little time problem.  So, we will definitely see who slits his throat and tosses him overboard.   How awesome is Bernard that he understood the Morse Code!?!
What does Jack want Bernard to do?

* Ben goes to Widmore.  We now know that they can’t kill each other.  But they really, really want to.  Revenge – Penny.  OMG.   More talk about the rules and who owns the island.   Is there something to Widmore’s comment about drinking, “When the nightmares started”?  Wonder what that is all about… what nightmares?

Other thoughts:

* When did Sawyer become everyone’s protector???  He risks everything to get Claire and then he totally defends Hurley to Locke.

* I thought that Widmore’s voice sounded like the Emperor from Star Wars.  It was super creepy.

* Is Hurley’s “Australia is the key to the whole game” exclamation a clue for us?  Does it mean more than just something for Risk?

* I’m worried about Jack’s hints at illness.

Thursday, 3/20/08!

Meet Kevin Johnson

* It's about time that Locke hosted a townhall meeting to bring his people up to speed.  As much as I'm not really liking Miles - each time we see him, I just want to learn more about him.  I felt that in the few tiny scenes he had - he owned them.  I think he is becoming our next big manipulator!  Sidebar - when did the grenade get taken out of his mouth?

* Michael clearly attempts suicide to deal with the guilt of killing Ana Lucia and Libby, and also probably the idea that he sold out Jack, Sawyer and Kate in the process.  Of course, we learn the biggest source of his guilt is with Walt.  Seriously, what kind of parent tells his 10-yr-old kid that they committed murder to save him???

* His suicide attempt doesn't work - and it clearly should have.  Then Tom shows up to tell us why - "You have more work to do."  I believe these are the same words that Walt said to Locke right after Ben shot Locke and he was lying in the mass-Dharma grave.  So, apparently, the island can keep you alive until you achieve redemption.  Or maybe the island has a mad sense of self-preservation and will keep you alive for that.  But given the themes we keep seeing, I think it's the former.
Another Sidebar - maybe the grenade fell out of his mouth - but Miles also has "work to do" and the island saved him.

* Speaking of Tom, how the heck did he get off and back on the island?  We've been led to believe that the hatch explosion destroyed the underwater beacons ability to tell the submarine how to arrive back on the island.  Ben said that once the sub
left, it wouldn't be able to return.  So, he's got to be lying.  No big surprise.  Of course, Tom makes the comment that "some of us" can come and go - so maybe certain people in the hierarchy of others don't need the beacon to come and go.  Maybe there is an alternative to the sub?

* I kinda guessed that Tom was gay after he told Kate that she wasn't his type.

* So, as soon as we think that Ben staged the crash - we get undisputable information that it was Whidmore.  Dug up bodies.  Gross.  Of course, better than the alternative...

* Do you think it was important that the freighter's name was painted over during the loading stage - but that it's clearly visible once they are out on the water?  I just thought it odd... and there has to be a reason for it or why show it like that?  Maybe the name of the freighter is more important than we thought?  Kahana or Kahala.

* Again, Miles has a cool little scene when he pulls out his sixth sense and calls out Michael for not using his real name.  Very cool.  I want to know more!

* Frank is definitely not in on the true mission as he clearly thinks it would be great to find survivors - doesn't seem to know that the ultimate mission is to find Ben.

* Not sure if the code for the bomb (sweet little care package) is 71776 or 77176 - but they aren't our numbers so it probably doesn't matter, but I still wanted to mention it.

* Ben, again, what a punk for putting Michael through the agony of setting that bomb - only to have it be fake.

* I'm not sure if I understand Sayid's rationale for selling out Michael to Captain Gault.  Then again, Sayid has been off the island and isn't aware of the growing doubt surrounding the freightee's true mission.  Still... you would think that Sayid would have figured out that Michael was their "friend" on the freighter who opened the door when they were locked in the sick bay.  Not that leaving a door open can rebuild the trust after killing 2 people and swapping 3 buds for a kid - but it's a start, right?  :-)

* OK - so, Carl gets shot.  And then Danielle too (hint - when on the island, never tell someone you love them for the first time).  I'm not a huge Danielle fan - but she is sooo interesting, I'm really bummed that she's probably dead.  Anyways, at first, I totally thought that Ben set them up to keep Carl from getting Alex preggers and also to take Danielle out of the parental role.  But, now I'm guessing that Frank's return to the island was to bring some sharpshooters with him.  But even with that theory - how would they have known about the sanctuary and how would they have known that people would be on their way there????  Unless, some of the freightees are ex-others that have been cast out by Ben?  Or maybe some ex-Dharma people that knew of the existence of the sanctuary and instructed Whidmore's crew to stake it out as eventually, Ben would attempt to go there?

* Alex in a hostage situation will be very interesting.  We'll definitely learn more about Ben as his daughter is about to be used as a wicked pawn.

* So - in the end - what are the fates of Michael and Alex??

Only read further if you watch the promos after the show:

***

I AM SOOOO P****D THAT THEY ARE CONSIDERING AARON ONE OF THE O6.    It makes me think that Kate is going to actually try to pass him off as her biological child that was on the flight with her.  Still, I believe that infants are logged onto the manifest even if they don't have a ticket.  When we flew with Roy last month, they definitely typed his name into the computer.  I think it's cr*p to consider him a passenger if he was in utero for the flight.  Maybe it's just something I'm going to have to get over, but it's going to take some time!!!

Ji Yeon

* We meet Regina – finally!  She’s reading the book upside-down… is it because she’s distracted by her guard duties, or is she going a little loopy?

* What’s the problem in the kitchen?  Why would it have been necessary for Michael (YES – confirmation that he is the “spy”) to sabotage the kitchen?

* Sun’s the next of our O6 and I absolutely LOVE how the writers tricked us into believing that Jin is one of them too!  But I have to admit that I was a little suspicious about the panda purchase… in my mind, I was thinking – pandas seem much more a Chinese thing than a Korean thing.

* We also should have suspected that something was up when a) he wasn’t recognized by the shop owner – so far all O6-ers have been very recognizable, b) he was willing to miss being in the delivery room for this panda and c) the last year of the dragon (shopkeeper tried to provide the dragon alternative) was in 2000 – 2004 was the year of the monkey.

* I didn’t realize that the Tempest Station was just about the poisonous gas – I really did think that it was also a power station.  Oh well.

* Was anyone else hoping for a “check yes, no or maybe” type of note on the freighter?

* Any possibility that the pipe-banging was Morse code?  Or is there another crazy person on the boat… maybe Regina?

* Juliet really takes it to a whole new level to keep Sun at the beach so that she can leave the island.

* OK - back to Regina – she Virginia Woolf’s herself and jumps overboard.  The Captain – who we’re not supposed to trust (if we trust Ben), comes out shortly after her.  This leads me to believe that he had just talked to her.  So, what I’m wondering is if HE put her into some kind of trance-like state and convinced her to jump, or if she really had this “Cabin Fever” from being close to the island and decided to commit suicide.  If it is the “Cabin Fever” – I think that it is different than the mind-jumping.  The upside-down book reading becomes much more interesting after this scene.  Is she nervous and preoccupied about her future because the Captain is possibly going to be cleaning up the loose ends of his crew before returning to the “real world” or is she just going batty?

* Captain Gault – wonder if his name is Roger, Rick or Randy?  Probably not Randy since we already have a Randy in the Lost-verse.   Maybe Roy.  :)  (this is a reference to the R.G. inscription on Naomi’s bracelet)

* I’m pretty sure that we confirmed that the boat was there on Charles Whidmore’s orders – but the Captain definitely confirmed this for us.  The Captain also confirmed that the Flight 815 found at the bottom of the ocean was staged – but we pretty much already knew that.  What we were never sure about was WHO did the staging – and it sounds like it was Ben’s doing.  Not surprising since he would know that the rescue/recovery missions may have found the island if they had to keep looking for it.

* Who was the man in the hallway when Sun had her baby?  Maybe a spy for her father – who I would imagine she is estranged from after returning from the island.

* Nice blood splatter in the freighter… and nice cockroaches too.  NASTY!!!  I hope we find out who got their brains blown out during a Michael flashback.  Michael = Kevin Johnson.  Next week??  The look on Sayid’s face when he “met” Michael was fantastic!

* I have to say that the pay-off of this being a flash forward for Sun, but a flash back for Jin, was the payoff we needed since we already knew that Michael was going to be the spy.  Well done.|

* Jin’s redemptive moment was realized when he both acknowledged his sketchy past and forgave Sun for having the affair… maybe that will have something to do with why he stays behind.  I liked that Bernard played a role in it.

* I loved when Hurley showed up to see the baby – who by the way is soooooo adorable!  I don’t understand why he said, “good” when Sun told him that no one else was coming… it made me think he was going to start making out with her… a feeling that I didn’t like at all.

* So – the gravesite.  This part was awesome because it shows the date of his death as 9/22/04 – the date of the crash.  I thought at first that he was going to be one of the “Eight Survivors” that Jack referenced at Kate’s trial.  Otherwise, how does Sun explain her due date?   The date of conception was at the beginning of November.  So this part is interesting.

* In the end, I don’t think that Jin is dead – I think he is still on the island.  As I said before, I think that Sayid’s efforts are to protect the people that remain on the island, and that Jin is one of them.

* I think we still have 1 more O6 to go – I really, really hope they’re not counting Aaron.

The Other Woman

* Harper Stanhope was a super bizzo to Juliet from the get-go. I was really surprised by how cold she was at the onset? Was she immediately viewed as a threat at just 1 week on the island? I suppose that the marrying pool is somewhat limited on the island, so maybe a new woman is always tempting to the men… but c’mon lady, get a grip. Granted, in the end, her initial instincts were right since Juliet didn’t seem to waste any time getting it on with Goodwin. But maybe Juliet wouldn’t have ever gone there if she had become friends with Harper.

* It was totally creepy when Harper showed up in the whispers and again disappeared into the whispers. I think she was hoping to kill Juliet by sending her to the Tempest station. I will be very interested to find out if this order truly came from Ben (who was imprisoned) or if Harper was acting alone. Neither one would surprise me, but I would love to find out how Ben did get that message out if it was a directive from him.

* The Tempest – electrical station that powers the island. Clearly, it is also a chemical site. I think that it is likely where Goodwin worked when he was still alive given the chemical burn when he first met Juliet.

* What was with the look between Kate and Charlotte? Kate totally looked like she recognized her – but they haven’t met yet, right?

* Charlotte is crazy violent. First knocking out Kate and then really getting into it with Juliet at the Tempest station.

* I think we all suspected that Ben and Juliet had some degree of a romantic past – but it is nice to have it confirmed as unrequited affection. Ben has been on the island too long and his moves show it. The longing stares while looking at cells under a microscope with the small brush of fingers is so passé.

* Unfortunately for Goodwin, Ben is just way too perceptive and can totally see through the whole, “just thought she might like a sandwich” line. Goodwin is so screwed. I hope we get to find out what Ethan may have done to piss off Ben to be the man selected to go to the lostie section of the plane.

* Since every book placed on the screen relates to the storyline, the fact that we’re seeing “Valis” again only emphasizes how important this particular book is to the show. I might have to order it.

* Harper said something about how Juliet “looks just like her.” I’m sure that this is a reference to Annie (“The Man Behind the Curtain”). I’m sure we’ll be finding out what happened to her soon.

* "Rabbit today? It didn’t have a number on it, did it?"   HILARIOUS!

* Yippee to all of us that agreed Whidmore is behind the freighter, assuming that Ben is telling the truth. And in this case, I believe him.

* Ben really tried digging into Juliet with the whole Goodwin passionate about Ana Lucia bit. Dude, you better just stop because your moves aren’t going to work!!!   But, he really crossed the line when he actually took her to his dead body. That was super gross and I can only imagine how bad it smelled since it had clearly been a couple of days. I think that before this, we had never seen him be downright cruel (unless you count gassing his own father-hmph).

* Ben saying, “You’re mine,” was way creepy.

* So – do we believe that Charlotte and Farraday were disabling the system to release the toxic chemicals?

* Between Day 27 and Day 94, Juliet really recovered from losing her boyfriend… is she just playing Jack or is it genuine?

* I think we’re starting to see why Hurley will regret his decision to go with Locke – he and Sawyer were pretty ticked to see Ben walking around the barracks.

Thursday, 2/28!

(written by Joel Walker this week, brother of Jill)

The Constant

* Filling in for Jill on the LOST Bullets, since she hasn’t watched yet and is headed out on vacation…unlike Jill’s bullets, I have more questions than observations.

* I love me a Desmond-centric episode. The mythical overtones of the show are always amplified during his flashbacks. From that strange Kelvin fellow, who as we'll remember is his link to Sayid, to him turning the key and changing everything in the finale of season 2. And there's the creepshow Ms. Hawking of "Flashes Before Your Eyes", where we get a glimpse of his new power, and a deeper understanding of his hostile relationship with Charles Widmore. Well, this opening scene did not disappoint. What a whirlwind. It's definitely providing some weight to this wormhole theory that's been bouncing around for a while.

* Anybody else feel as if Charlotte is the most manipulative of these freighters? I found it interesting that she scoffed at the idea of prayer and religious influence, seeing as how she's CS Lewis and all. But maybe that gives us some insight to her back story. She’s a cultural anthropologist (also from Oxford, btw) who probably doesn't have much tolerance for religion…but I found it interesting nonetheless. Especially since there are so many characters who seem to be named after influential artists, philosophers, and scientists.

* Finally we meet Minkowski. At first blush, he strikes me as a Ben-ish character. But why's he all strapped in? What happened on the boat in the last, oh 48 hours or so that Minkowski would be sabotaged?

* "Brutha" apparently isn't just a term of endearment. He was about to “Macho Man” Savage that dude.

* OK, some real momentum here. Faraday asks him to find him in 1996. This is all very interesting. It recalls that first time we met Faraday, in his flashback, and he couldn't understand his sadness for the Oceanic flight. He obviously has some power over time and existence. The frequency that Faraday gives Desmond is 2.342 (23, 42).

* 1996 Faraday is much creepier. But let's try and make sense of this scene in the lab…Faraday has some sort of device that allows a living creature's consciousness to travel through time. What is this machine and when was Desmond exposed to it? Could it have been when he turned the key, and that radiant light filled the island sky? Maybe…but wouldn't everyone else be inflicted as well? Or was that just the magnetism deactivation? Either way, that's when Desmond discovered this clairvoyant power.

* The idea of a constant is one of the truly great story elements of Lost, one that combines science and faith and love and redemption…all significant themes of the show. A constant apparently provides a time traveling conscience with ability to disassociate the past from the future. Mixing the two worlds results in bloody noses and Mikhail-ian style deaths, but where and what time was Minkowski bouncing back and forth from? I’m sure we’ll find out eventually.

* So, Penny knows about the freighter, but not Naomi? Or was it that she didn't know about it until Charlie called her?

* Hey a real date...12/24/04. According to the calendar on the wall, as well as Desmond, the real-time events of this episode take place on Day 94 (Christmas Eve), continuing the timeline established in The Economist, when Sayid, Desmond and Frank left the island. This means that while it is Day 94 on the Freighter, it is actually Day 95 on the Island. More wormhole action!  My only question is why we didn't get any Hurley sings your Holiday favorites? Tell me they celebrate Christmas on the island on one of these episodes.

* A friend on the boat opens the door...I'm still with Jill, I think it's Michael.

* The Black Rock! The Journal! Charles Widmore! (... who’s evidently a “one-hand man” in the bathroom. Very interesting…or not.) He’s got some OCD/germaphobe issues when washing his hands, not to mention an acute disregard for the world's water supply. What does he need this journal for? What clues will it give us about the island? Is there a parallel between the Black Rock journal and the Faraday journal?

* Here’s another question I couldn’t help but pose: Does everyone on the island have a constant? Probably not, but if so, who are your thoughts for everyone's constant?

* “Someone has to tell me precisely what is going on.” Best line of the episode, delivered by the best character to the second best character! Really, this episode was fantastic and we owe most of that to Sayid and Desmond.

* 7946 0893 – that’s Penny’s number right? Anybody see any relevance to this to other numbers?

* With his confession of undying love to his constant Penny, he's now able to think clearly through both the past and present. But only as long as he’s able to make contact with her? Will he continue to have flashes between the two time periods? Therefore I have to ask, if Desmond is Faraday’s constant, and Penny is Desmond’s constant, then WTH is the BLACK SMOKE!!!   *sorry*   :)
* Great, great episode. More questions were raised obviously, but I feel like they’re questions on a slippery slope to answers, picking off additional questions along the way.

* Did anyone else find it a coincidence that this episode aired on the day before Leap Day?

Some additional info I found about the VALIS story from last week’s ep:

* Philip K. Dick's VALIS-In the novel the main character Horselover Fat (himself a version of author Philip Dick), gets exposed to a pink laser which provides him with knowledge perceived to be from God. This information gives him access to his past and future reincarnations, one a citizen of ancient Rome and another in the far future.

Other tidbits/unanswered questions:

* Frank is told by Daniel to follow a bearing of 305, which is a Northwest direction. Eko's stick bore the inscription "Lift up your eyes and look north - John 3:05".

* Has Daniel been to the island before?

* Who sabotaged the radio room?

* Who opened the sick bay door?

* Why were 4 days unmarked on the Calendar on the Wall?

* What would Jill have written about that I forgot?

Thursday, 2/21!

Eggtown

* The book Locke took off the shelf is “VALIS” by Philip K. Dick.  According to www.amazon.com, here is the synopsis (very interesting):

It is a fool's search for God, who turns out to be a virus, a joke, and a mental hologram transmitted from an orbiting satellite.

The proponent of the novel, Horselover Fat, is thrust into a theological quest when he receives communion in a burst of pink laser light. From the cancer ward of a bay area hospital to the ranch of a fraudulent charismatic religious figure who turns out to have a direct com link with God, Dick leads us down the twisted paths of Gnostic belief, mixed with his own bizarre and compelling philosophy. Truly an eye opening look at the nature of consciousness and divinity.

* VALIS is an anagram for Vast Active Living Intelligence System

* Locke will forever be manipulated – he can’t avoid it.  I loved when Ben further ticked him off when he condescendingly commended Locke for evolving.

* Flash forward episode of Kate – to answer the question of how she is out of jail in 2006 when we know she was a wanted fugitive in 2004.  Yet, I do have some issues with this – but I’ll get to that later.

* About the trial – it was interesting that Jack testified 8 survived the crash… so their story must involve the post crash deaths of 2 to get to the O6 (that was some fancy math right there).

* The Sun / Jin mini-conversation was strange… she says “my” baby, he corrects her with “our” baby… we know she knows it is Jin’s baby… so why was this interaction important?

* When Jack & Juliet return to the beach with Charlotte & Dan – it is soooo clear from the look in Dan’s eyes that they are not all going to be rescued.

* Hurley, “You just Scooby-doo’d me.”  HILARIOUS!!!

* So, did Kate seriously go to all that trouble to learn if the freighties knew who she was??  I think that’s kinda ridiculous.  There is no way that after 90+ days missing and presumed dead that she can return to “civilization” and just slip through the cracks unnoticed – even if every single person on that plane came home.  No matter what – each and every one of them is going to be a huge personal interest story.  Kate’s not dumb, so wouldn’t she have come to that on her own?

* Awesome box-o-wine :)

* I should have realized during the backgammon game that Sawyer was conning Locke – but I didn’t and I totally thought he was ratting her out… so I was pleased to see that he was playing Locke to get him out of the house for the Miles / Ben conversation.

*Miles wants $3.2 million.  Strange number… unless you consider it a 32 and then it is one of the Lost numbers.

* Miles says he knows what Ben can “do” – and that the “doing” basically means that he has a lot of money at his disposal.  Is Miles referring to his ability to commune with Jacob or the island, or something we don’t really know about yet?

* I think that when Kate turned around one last time to look at Sawyer, it really might be the last time she sees him.

* Is Dan losing his memory?  He can’t remember 3 cards…  I thought the island mostly helped people (walk, cure cancer)… now we’re potentially seeing someone negatively impacted by the island.  Maybe the island can fight back when it feels threatened?

* When Kate and Claire were hanging up the laundry, I said to Drew – I bet Kate takes Aaron off of the island.  Either Claire dies in the big showdown that I think is coming, so Kate feels she has no choice – or something strange happens to Claire where she asks Kate to take him with her.  I’m thinking Claire isn’t going to make it.  And to reference an earlier point – she is one of the 8 Jack mentioned in the trial, but dies before she can be one of the O6.

* And in the end, it is Aaron – and NOT Sawyer’s baby.  Go me!  But good work to the writers for really trying to get everyone to believe that she was having Sawyer’s baby.

*Anyways, how old was Aaron when she returned from the trial – 2 or 3??  I get that there may have been some time in between the return and the trial – her lawyer even mentions that she was free while awaiting trial.  But still, he’s only about 2 months old at the current island time (born 11/1/04)… which puts him at just 17 months at the beginning of April 2006 when Jack is all depressed?  And I think we can assume that the trial happened before April 2006 based on Jack’s appearance.  Or maybe I’m not very good at judging the age of toddlers… or maybe this flash forward took place AFTER April 2006 and Jack gets himself cleaned up?  Too many questions…

* But why doesn’t Jack want to see the baby?  Guilt over Claire’s death?  Did he ever discover that she is his sister?

* Will we see any fallout from the foreboding of “Raised by Another” back in season 1?  That psychic made it very clear to Claire that she is supposed to be the person raising the baby.

* And do you think we know the cab driver?  The look on Kate’s face when she saw the cab sitting there was a bit too excited for just seeing your average cab?

* I now think that the “HE” Kate refers to in TLG is Aaron… and not an adult.  I think that I change my theory on this after every episode.

* Locke is CRAZY!  That grenade move was creepy, but so was the declaration that he is “responsible for protecting the island.”

* Oh – and what happened to Frank, Sayid and Desmond???  Are they flying around in circles like Desmond did when he tried to leave via boat?  Are they having trouble finding the exact heading to get out of the weird time issue?  I think they will likely return to the beach before they get to the freighter.

* BTW – I don’t think that Aaron qualifies as O6… he wasn’t technically a passenger on the plane just yet…

Thursday, 2/14!

The Economist

* “N, I’ll always be with you, R.G.” Who is R.G.?

* Sayid is an O6!!! Yippee!!! I had hoped he would be one of them!

* I noticed the change in Mr. Avellino’s face immediately when Sayid identified himself and was wondering what freaked him out so much… until Sayid shot him. So, I guess his apprehension was warranted – but why did Sayid kill him?

* I like that Sayid called himself a “Head Hunter” when he introduced himself to Elsa.  Hahahaha.

* Locke can no longer find Jacob’s shack. The protective sand circle was still there – so where the heck is the shack? Maybe it’s there and we just can’t see it in the daylight?

* So, Faraday sets up the beacon and wants to call the boat to talk to Regina (possibly the “R” in R.G.?), Frank tells him to go ahead but to hang up if “McCowsky” answers the phone. This McCowsky person was mentioned already – but I don’t remember the context. Can anyone else remember?

* Thirty-one minutes later the payload shows up! Whoa!!! But the island isn’t delayed from the outside world since Faraday and Regina had a real time conversation with each other… it’s just the travel time that is messed up. Remember in 'Not in Portland' when they tell Juliet that the trip is “a little rough.” I’ll say…

* Hurley is a bad, bad boy for tricking Sayid!

* “Awesome. The ship sent us another Sawyer.” – Hurley, love it.

* Nice secret room in Ben’s house. Creepy with all those suits, cash and passports.

* Interesting that Kate’s reaction to Sawyer was to NOT trust him.

* Sawyer made an excellent point to Kate about returning to regular life and how she’ll end up in jail. But then, I’m guessing that when Kate returns as one of the O6 – she is regaled as a hero and pardoned. Maybe she spends a few days in jail while they work out the pardon, but then she’s let go.

* Anyways, I love knowing that while for now she’s going to “play house” with Sawyer – something happens to make her leave anyway. It’s like, when we saw Hurley I thought to myself, “and now he’s reunited with the O6.” Which is exactly what they wanted us to think – only the big event that ultimately separates him from Locke is still coming. And I wait with much anticipation!

* I did not see the Elsa playing Sayid thing coming. Clearly, we all knew he was working her to get to her boss, but I had NO CLUE that she was trying to find HIS boss as well! That was awesome!

* When Sayid said, “His name was on a list.” I totally got the chills and immediately suspected that he’s working for Jacob – the king of lists.

* Elsa had the same bracelet as Naomi. Clearly, they worked for the same boss. It made me think of Charlie’s Angels.

* Faraday and Charlotte both stay behind… is it because the island is intriguing to them or because they really want Ben. I get the feeling from these 2 that they are more scientist-y and care more about the bizarre island than in tracking down Ben. Miles really seemed to be the only one who was interested in that. Faraday stresses to Frank to follow the exact heading that they came in on. Probably something to do with the time issues/delays; maybe a portal.

* Total craziness – Ben is Sayid’s boss! Or maybe it is Jacob through Ben. Holy crap, holy crap, holy crap! I am so pissed that he is still around and still manipulating people! “Do you want to protect your friends or not?” was what he said to keep Sayid in line. I’m thinking that the “friends” he is referring to are the people STILL on the island because these people are still trying to find the island. He could be referring to the other members of O6 – but I think it has more to do with the people still on the island.

* And in the end, we still don’t know who “The Economist” is, even though it is the title of this episode. Maybe Charles Whidmore? Abbadon?

* I think we can add Ben to the possibilities of the “him” Kate referred to in TLG - which would really freak me out!

* Even though Sayid & Desmond left the island – they have to be coming back at some point. Or I supposed that just the helicopter needs to go back… either way, I hope that we get scenes on the boat. To see Michael again (Kate & my theory to Ben’s spy on the boat)!

Thursday, 2/7!

Confirmed Dead

On my walk to work this morning, I had a theory about one of the O6.  If Desmond’s vision is right – Claire has to be one of them!

Here we go:

* First, let’s address the plane wreckage.  Last season, my theory was “someone staged a fake crash somewhere else so that these people would not be found. I’m leaning to the staged crash somewhere. Dharma-Mittelos-Others are pretty inventive, and I could see them orchestrating a phony crash in order to prevent a search party from discovering their utopian-science lab-island.”  I think this theory definitely still holds weight given Frank’s “negative” ID of the pilot.  So, either the footage is somehow doctored to show the public, or ...

A plane full of dead bodies is really sitting at the bottom of the ocean.  I will add another possibility to the reason [behind] why this wreck was staged – the “rescuers” know that the island exists, as they’ve been looking for it.  They know about the unique properties of the island and they want it for themselves, not for a random search party to find it.  It’s not much different than the original theory… it’s just a difference between protecting the island from the outside world in theory 1 and greed / possession in theory 2.

* Flashbacks First – several people.  I liked it.

a.       Daniel Faraday – physicist – “nut case”:  Cries when he learns of Oceanic 815.  Doesn’t know why… so bizarre.

b.       Miles Straume – psychic – “ghostbuster”:  He heard about O815, but I don’t think he had any reaction to it.  At first I thought he was a hustler and in a way, I still think he is, but he did find that money without really searching for it.  Observations about the room in his flashback:  a couple shots of the kid in the photograph (important?), I think I saw a wheelchair and the #15 was on one of the posters.

c.       Charlotte Lewis – anthropologist w/ no funny nickname from Naomi:  I think she’s the most interesting.  She, like Dan, was very drawn to the O815 coverage and indicated that didn’t really believe it.  Very Interesting.  Her identification of the polar bear remains in the middle of the desert w/ the Dharma log was awesome… so fascinating.  This is the first one to really seem to know the existence of Dharma and knew what she was seeking out when she joined the “team”.  Dharma logo was Hydra Station, right?  The station where Jack was held… So, either the polar bear got transferred off the island OR all Dharma project sites are identical and have the same stations.  I don’t know if this really matters.

d.      Frank Lapidus – pilot – “drunk”:  Very interesting that he was supposed to fly that day.  Did he miss because he was drunk or did he become a drunk from guilt?   I think the former.

e.       Naomi w/ Abaddon – so cool!  She clearly is someone to be reckoned with, mad skills too… even if she is dead (for now – who knows, she could be like Mikhail).  She too finds the wreckage doubtful and thinks there could be survivors.  I think it’s because she knows the island exists, and of its bizarre properties, and probably knows it played a role in the crash and played a role in super healing people.  It is because she thinks there could be survivors – that I think she is part of the group that staged the crash.

* Back to our guys – Ben’s reaction to the possibility that Hurley saw Jacob’s shack was very interesting.  I couldn’t tell if he was happy that Locke maybe isn’t so special, or if he was freaked out about the idea that there is a growing number of people that can communicate with & see Jacob.

* “If you’re going to sleep with daughter, I insist you call me Ben” – hehehe.

* Kudos to all the people who believed Locke survived the bullet b/c there was no kidney there…

* Question answered – the sister line was code.  I don’t want to hear anyone ever say we don’t get answers on this show.   :)

* Ben’s attempts to manipulate Sawyer were great – especially when Sawyer called him out on it.  He’s not going to let Ben con him again.  Yoda - hahahaha

* Daniel’s first reaction to landing on the island was definitely “defensive”.  He immediately got his gun ready and was quite frantic.  He completely changed when Jack showed up.  It was freaky.  And what was with the pause before he gave his name?  I think we can trust his first name since the woman in his flashback called him Dan… but the last name is another story… or not.

* And why the heck is he wearing a necktie?

* Gas masks in the drop – “rescue is not our primary objective”.   Will we have another purge?  That could certainly result in some Jack-guilt in 2006.  Maybe the O6 are the lucky ones that grab those gas masks, and watch while their friends die.  That would suck and I hope that’s not it.

* My undying love for Sayid continues.  I love his quiet but demanding presence.  When he and Juliet show up guns ablazin’ – that was fantastic!  Jack’s little wink to Kate was cute too – especially since she didn’t get it.

* I really, really hope Sayid is one of the O6.

* Helicopter # ---- N842M.  8 and 42 are some of our numbers… don’t know about the N or the M.  If you assign numerical value to the letters – you get 14 and 13…I wish it would have been O and P.

* Ben shoots Charlotte – he is EVIL.   Good thing she’s got that vest on… of course that is so suspicious!

* He knows all about them and has a mole on the freighter.  Ben is nothing if not thorough.  WOW.  So, he clearly knows who these people are and what group they represent.  Cool – maybe we’ll know soon too.

* Any guesses for who is Ben’s "man on their boat"?  Maybe he DID convert Michael and that’s where Michael went when he left the island?

* A cow?

I loved this episode – so much fun!!

Thursday, 1/31 (Season Premiere)!

The Beginning of the End

Here goes:

* Hurley’s Flash Forward takes place sometime between December 23ish, 2004 (current island time) and April 2007 (TLG)… I didn’t see any other time clues in his FF… did anyone else?

* Nice to see he got his Dad’s car working… or maybe his Dad fixed it while Hurley was presumed dead?  Probably doesn’t matter.  Also, we were watching the car chase on channel 8.

* We’ve got a semi-answer about Jack’s grief in TLG as it is likely the result of leaving people behind – either alive or dead.  Of course, I think we all suspected that was the reason.

* We know that he wasn’t immediately upset upon returning home – he was originally okay with the story that the “Oceanic 6” or “O6” (referred to as that going forward) developed since he checked in with Hurley to make sure he wasn’t telling anyone whatever it is that they don’t want to tell…  It will be fun to discover the catalyst of Jack’s downward spiral.  Of course, it could just be guilt catching up with him.

* Especially since he said to Kate in TLG, “I can’t keep lying.”

* Perhaps the guilt/truth will catch up to each of the O6.  Started with Hurley, we know that by April 2007 it has Jack, but not Kate.  Maybe it gets Kate in 2007 or 2008 and the other 3 (or 2 if you buy my next bullet point) and that’s when they all go back to the island in 2008/2009 for the final season?

* I still believe the funeral in TLG was for Locke.  I really think it had to be one of the O6.  We know that Locke didn’t have anyone off the island – so an empty service makes sense.  We know that guilt catches up to Jack and since Locke didn’t want to leave the island, Jack might feel the most amount of guilt for Locke.  And we solidified Kate’s feelings for Locke as Naomi was dying.  We know she shows disdain for the dead person in TLG – so I think all this makes sense.

* Is Hurley’s denial of knowing Ana Lucia part of the story/lie that the O6 came up with?  BTW – I thought that guy was familiar, but I watch too much tv and talked myself out of believing he was from Lost and that I was recognizing him from something else.  They need to use more obscure actors for the flashbacks and forwards.  :)

* What is the deal with Jacob’s shack?  It was appearing and disappearing all over the place.  Christian was definitely “the Jacob” in the rocking chair.  And I think that was Locke’s eye this time.

*  I think it’s interesting that at least one of the O6 went with Locke – clearly the separation of Locke v. Jack will have no impact on what these “rescuers” do and who goes with them.

* And the fact that Hurley apologizes to Jack for going with Locke is very, very interesting.  Makes me think some bad stuff is going to happen with the people who go with Locke.

* Since Locke was headed to the barracks and since I think bad things are going to happen, I think it’s possible that the “rescuers” are original Dharma since they would know how to find the barracks.  It would make sense to me that original Dharma would want to get back to find what is left of their stuff and also for them to attack the people living in their old quarters.  Maybe they are responding to “Enter 77” when Locke entered 77 to let Dharma know that the Hostiles were invading…

* I was impressed that Jack pulled the trigger on Locke.  Not happy, just impressed that Jack was at that level of frustration with Locke.

* Interesting that Sawyer went with Locke.

* Interesting that Rose DID NOT go with Locke.

* OK – on to Charlie’s ghost.   If it is a ghost – who knows at this point…  All I really care about is that he says, “They need you.”  Definitely makes me think that there are still survivors and that not everyone died in the shakedown when the “rescuers” arrived.

* Maybe a similar apparition is Jack’s catalyst… maybe his Dad… especially since he mentions his Dad in TLG…

* Any theories about who are the O6?  We know Jack, Kate and Hurley.  I suspect Sawyer only because he is the only person that makes sense when Kate said in TLG, “He’ll wonder where I am.”  Of course, it may not be a “he” we know yet.  I also think Locke is one – as I explained above.  That 6th position is up for grabs… Sayid, maybe?  OR – maybe Michael and Walt are part of the 6?  I do think that perhaps Desmond gets off too – but since he wasn’t on the flight, I don’t think he gets to be one of the O6.

* Who is Mathew Abaddon?  The guy who claimed to be from Oceanic that visited Hurley in the institution.  I believe he is one of the Others that was on assignment prior to the purple sky and has not been able to get back to the island.  We know from Mikhail (greta & bonnie) in TLG and from Richard in “Not in Portland” that some of the others go out on assignment.   And we also know from “Not in Portland” that the Others have a great deal of resources, so it would make sense that they could move Hurley to a “nicer” place.

* I like that Hurley still likes to play Connect Four in the institution.

* Before Naomi dies, she says, “Tell my sister I love her.”  It has to mean something… they’re her final words.  So, who is her sister?  Either we know the sister somehow OR it’s code to the freighter.

* Speaking of the apology scene, Hurley, “It wants us back” was super duper creepy!  And “Never say never” – they’re totally going back at some point!

* I was impressed with Sawyer’s compassion for Hurley over Charlie’s death.

* Did anyone watch the Oceanic teaser in Eli Stone?  I TiVo'ed the show so that I could fastforward through it to check it out, but didn’t do it last night.

I’m going to reference the season 3 finale a lot and since it’s called “Through the Looking Glass” – I’m shortening it to “TLG” – ok!?
